About Us

Amul – The Taste of India

Amul is one of India’s most recognised and trusted food brands, with a legacy deeply connected to the country’s dairy farmers and consumers. Managed by the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF), Amul represents a unique cooperative model that connects millions of milk producers with consumers across India and international markets.

A Farmer-Owned Cooperative

At the heart of Amul is its cooperative philosophy. The organisation was created to provide dairy farmers with better returns for their milk while making quality dairy products available to consumers at good value.

GCMMF serves as the apex marketing organisation for Gujarat’s dairy cooperatives and markets products under the Amul and Sagar brands. Its cooperative structure brings together milk producers, village-level cooperatives and district milk unions under a common organisation.

This farmer-focused model has made Amul an important part of India’s dairy development and has helped establish a strong connection between rural producers and consumers.

A Legacy of Dairy Excellence

Amul’s story is closely associated with the development of India’s dairy industry and the cooperative movement. Over the decades, the organisation has grown from its dairy roots into a diversified food business while continuing to maintain its cooperative foundation.

Today, Amul is widely recognised for its role in India’s dairy sector and for making dairy products accessible to consumers throughout the country. GCMMF was established in 1973 and celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2024.

Quality Food for Every Household

Amul offers a broad range of food products designed for everyday consumption. Its portfolio includes milk, milk powder, butter, ghee, cheese, paneer, ice cream, health beverages, chocolates, traditional Indian sweets and other food products.

The brand continues to expand its product range in response to changing consumer preferences, introducing new products while maintaining its focus on quality, value and accessibility.

Innovation and Technology

Innovation has been an important part of Amul’s growth. The organisation has adopted modern technologies across manufacturing, processing, distribution and marketing while continuing to build on its traditional cooperative strengths.

From dairy processing to new food categories and direct-to-consumer initiatives, Amul continues to explore new ways of serving consumers and making its products more accessible.

A Nationwide Presence

Amul has developed one of India’s largest food distribution networks. Its products reach consumers through a vast network of sales offices, distributors and retailers across the country. The organisation also has milk procurement operations beyond Gujarat and an expanding presence in international markets.

This extensive network enables Amul products to reach households in cities, towns and communities across India.

More Than a Food Brand

Amul represents more than dairy products. Its cooperative model demonstrates how farmers, professional management and modern food marketing can work together to create value for both producers and consumers.

By connecting dairy farmers directly with the market, Amul has helped strengthen rural livelihoods while building a food brand that has become part of everyday life for generations of Indian consumers.

Looking to the Future

Amul continues to evolve as consumer tastes, lifestyles and food preferences change. While remaining firmly rooted in its dairy heritage and cooperative values, the organisation continues to expand its product portfolio, adopt new technologies and explore opportunities in India and international markets.

With its commitment to farmers, consumers, quality and innovation, Amul continues its journey as “The Taste of India.”
